So anyways... I know how to knit and I dug out my knitting needles and started to knit caps for them. Or I asked my grandma to show me how to knit a cap because I only knew how to knit straight. After that I went back to the website over and over just to see what they were doing, etc.
Spring of 2010 @savethechildren tweets Lisa Edelstein will be coming to Advocacy Day in DC.... I had to go... this was my chance to meet her... didn't get to meet her because school got in the way but that just lead me back to their website where I stumbled across a packet on how to start a campus club... ah ha moment went to the club website to find the club so I could join... there is no club at mason :( bummer
So I then decided oh wait I can start this.. so I started to poll people to see if it was something people wanted and after getting a positive reaction from my friends I got the paperwork started and come Fall of 2010 I went and submitted it and we were recognized as an official organization in October of 2010! Since then the club has been giving regular semesterly donations to Save the Children from events, etc.
So the main reason I found an amazing organization that I am so passionate about is because of Lisa Edelstein and I really hope I meet her one day if only to say "Thank you for doing that Knit One Save One video" if it weren't for that video I might not have found out about the organization.
And I just realized that STC has kept me logged as a donor since January 2009 which is right around the time that I sent in the caps I made for Knit One Save One! I love this organization and I really hope they stay active in what they are doing for the children around the world!
